Earth Arts Academy

Earth Arts Academy is a community-oriented movement to create an Environmental High School in Nevada City, opening in 2016. We are a California non-profit, spearheaded by Xylem Larla Dey. Xylem is currently gaining a Masters in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, at Chico State. Xylem's thesis project is the design plan for the High School, based on the 4 A's: Academics, Arts, Apprenticeships in Sustainability & Adventures in Nature.

Pilot Programming This Fall

Geared for our first target high school class, now age 10:

"Mini Vision Quest": A Sept. weekend in the Sierras: hiking, camping, wildcrafting, and wilderness teambuilding, plus solo time in their special spot nature. Nighttime singing and stargazing with Xylem and Earth Arts friends- We'll ask the youth to share their own visions for their future high school.

A series of afternoon & weekend workshops at rotating sites, with future high school mentors:

Wilderness skills with Rick Berry of Four Elements Earth Education
Garden education at the Food Love Project with Amanda
Renewable energy education with Joshua Sandstrom
